Bringing back 30 days of local wine

30 Days of Local Wine is Back!

Staff

30 days of local wine started last year with an initiative. A challenge to drink only Ontario wines for 30 days. We took the challenge, and documented the process in a month long feature. We played on the initiative, exposing the culture of local food and wine in Ontario. The result was a highly successful mashup of collaboration articles, food and wine pairings, local wine events, tweetups, and even a few wine videos. 30 days of local wine is back this year, and once again we’ll be putting the focus on the wines, wineries and the various personalities behind them. A stellar line up complimented by a ton of local food and wine content by some of our favourite local bloggers..

  Cave Spring 2009 Riesling
Rick VanSickle

Cave Spring is Niagara’s, ah, heck, let’s just say Canada’s, best producer of Riesling and, as far as I’m concerned, up there with some of the best in the world.
The winery’s top cuvee, the CSV (Cave Spring Vineyard) Riesling, is a stunning example of what this grape can do in the right vineyard and in the right winemaker’s hands. It brings everything to the table: fruit, acid, minerality, balance and that special sense of place, that little thing called terroir...

Brick Works, More Than A Market
Lauren Simmons
Citizens of Toronto have driven past the complex of derelict buildings that is the Don Valley Brick Works for years. When we heard there was a Farmer’s Market being held there on Saturdays starting about three years ago, we jumped at the chance to get local farm-fresh produce closer to uptown. Nature lovers have enjoyed exploring the beautiful paths and wetlands that sprawl through the Don Valley behind the buildings, and foodie folk have loved all the exciting events that have used to the space such

When I have a day off, (not as frequent an occurrence as I would like), you would expect that I would be happy to get out of the kitchen and relax. This morning, I proved once again that this is not the case for me. At all.

An early morning shopping trip provided me with bags full of inspiration. Fresh rabbit, creamy new potatoes and pencil-thin asparagus were only the beginning. I mentally planned my meal on the way home.

I've been a bad blogger this summer. The patio weather hit and I found myself parked there with a beverage in my hand instead of in the kitchen baking up sweets. This has been an amazing (and some would say alarming) growing season so far. There’s corn by the roadsides and we’ve already eaten our fill of strawberries, cherries, blueberries. Right now I’m enjoying several baskets a week of some of the best peaches I’ve ever had. That I wait all year for local fruite may have something to do with it..

Breaded Goat Cheese

Breaded cheese gives the impression, I think, of being stodgy, unhealthy, and anachronistic.  This goat cheese spin on the traditional is none of the three.r today and she wouldn’t remember the visit or me, even if I did.Goat cheese is healthy, at least according to those who market it and I do know people who are lactose intolerant but can better deal with goat cheese.
