The Bloor Street Diner in the Manulife Centre has been around for over two decades, and has since expanded from its original location to include four other restaurants in Toronto. Although it’s called a diner, it’s more of a bistro, with few attributes of a diner. Inside, it is a flush of colourful walls and ceilings, and a large, spacious seating area. It’s a popular spot for business lunches, and semi-formal dinners. The ample seating space makes it a good venue for group dinners or lunches.
The menu is a blend of French and North American food, from the croque monsieur to the soupe a l’oignon au gratin, to the Caesar salad and sirloin burger. The Cobb salad is very good, so is the salade de chevre chaud. The pastas are excellent, so is the chicken, but the fish can tend to be a little bland and dry. Most of the appetizers are very good – the calamari is usually well-made, as is the coconut shrimp dish.
The four other restaurants are located at King and Bathurst, Yonge and Eglinton, Leslie and York Mills, and King and University. Average price for a lunch meal is about $15 and for dinner is about $22.
